Contact Kick Boxing Class

Posted November 30, 2009
It would be a great addition to offer a contact kick boxing class. I realize that you currently offer a boxing class without contact but I feel like the work out and training through the course I could match with out paying $60. The best way to learn kick boxing (or boxing) is with a partner with contact--of course with the appropriate pads. There would be demand because there are no other classes like this in Grand Forks.

Wellness Center Success Stories

Posted November 6, 2009

Between October 2007 and August 2008 I lost 50 pounds by working out at the Wellness Center and learning better eating habits. I had never been a member or even worked out at a gym before discovering this facility. Since then I have maintained my weight by becoming a regular user of the Wellness Center (5-6 days per week). I now understand what it takes to maintain a healthy lifestyle by combining exercise and healthy eating habits. My self-confidence has received a major boost as well! I think it would be fun to have one of the display boards at the Wellness Center devoted to success stories from the facility. It could encompass any one or all of the 7 wellness elements. Perhaps put up a before and after picture and include a little discription on how the Wellness Center can literally change someone's life. I am proud of my new lifestyle and would be glad to be a first to share their success story!

Later Hours on Saturdays

Posted November 2, 2009
  • Keep the wellness center open later on saturdays. The weekends are the only time I feel I have open to exercise, and sometimes I'm just not ready to exercise until 5 or 6 p.m. Maybe a survey could be used to see if I'm in the minority.

Open Up the Spin Room

Posted November 2, 2009
  • I wish that the spin room was open for workouts rather than just the hour or two a day that it is open for group workout classes. The bikes in the spin room are great trainers compared to the upright bikes in the cardio area. Winter is coming and that means no more biking outside. So if the spin room was open, maybe during certain hours, especially on the weekends for longer rides, that would be awesome.

Clocks in the Basketball Gym are WORTHLESS

Posted October 29, 2009

It'd be uber-convenient if there was a big digital clock in the basketball gym. Not, like, humongous... just big enough, so one didn't have to stop playing to read the time.

By contrast the clocks in the weight room are fine, because it's not a large area (relative to the basketball court). But, when one is on the basketball court, it's improbable to see the time while playing. Not only that but the activity is quite different. While lifting weights, one is likely to have to move from one machine to another, thereby allowing him/her to read the time with ease. However, when playing basketball, it's quite inconvenient to stop in the heat of the moment for something so trivial.

So, pretty please with sugar on top, and for the sake of all ballers, install an appropriate clock in the gym.

P.S. This is a serious suggestion. I'm just not the type of person to write completely formal unless it's imperative.

It would be great if there were other magazines to read than Newsweek and Yoga. Expand your magazine rack. You may have other magazines that don't last too long because people take them home with them. But it would be nice to have the option to read something other than Newsweek. Not ideal to read while working out. Maybe subscribe to running or fitness magazines.

I think it would be great (if the funds are availible for equipment) to get a kickboxing class started!

A suggestion for another rec sport is floor hockey. You have ice hockey, roller hockey, and broomball might as well add floor hockey as well to grab kids who want to play hockey but can't skate. Also intro classes for recsports perhaps.

Please prepare some workout handouts for people who come to the Well and cannot afford to perform the testing and hire a trainer. Not all of us are gym rats or athletes who know what workouts to do to get in better shape. Things like: interested in becoming a runner - here's how to start. Need to loose some weight - cardio + weight lifting these workouts, these many days.
